In this week’s Jewel Box, we are highlighting our prekindergarten program, with registration open now! Pre-K is a vital time for a student’s growth, and we urge all parents to register their child now. Learning the basics of reading, writing and speaking in pre-K lays a solid foundation that our students can carry with them through their entire educational journey.  Pre-K 4 Early Registration and the Pre-K 3 lottery will be open until June 19, 2026. Prekindergarten homework stars celebrated with movie viewing at Pelham Picture House

The Prekindergarten Department held its Homework Celebration on Saturday at the Pelham Picture House! The celebration recognized 50 out of the 112 students who completed 90% or more of their homework from October to February. A lottery for 50 spaces was held to select students for the celebration. Families were so excited to watch the Mario Movie in a private local theater, and the Prekindergarten Department can't wait to host their final celebration in June with a viewing of Toy Story 2!

Talk, Sing, Point: Mount Vernon Basics Workshop returns April 25

Families with young children are invited to learn, connect and have fun at the Mount Vernon City School District’s upcoming Mount Vernon Basics Workshop. The district will host its second in-person “Talk, Sing and Point Workshop” on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Mount Vernon High School, 100 California Road.

Mount Vernon students compete in Pioneer League Special Olympics basketball

Students on the Mount Vernon Knights Pioneer League Basketball Team have begun competition! The league, which was started by Special Olympics New York, gives students the opportunity to compete against other schools. The Knights played their first game against New Rochelle on March 17 and will go up against Woodlands at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Mount Vernon High School.

Mount Vernon Wrestling open mats are being held every Thursday at Mount Vernon High School! These sessions are open to anyone interested in joining the team, making them perfect for new wrestlers looking to learn and get involved. Open mats are mandatory for all returning wrestlers as the team prepares for a strong upcoming season.
