MVCSD hosts annual Fall Festival

MVCSD hosts annual Fall Festival

Families throughout Mount Vernon spent Saturday afternoon at Graham School, engaging in fun-filled activities together at the district-wide Fall Festival. Community members learned about resources throughout the city, such as the Mount Vernon City School District Parent Resource Center (PRC).

The parent liaisons organized this event to encourage families to be involved and spend quality time together. Upon entry, families signed in and were greeted by the friendly faces of the parent liaisons and school staff, who gave families a tour of the new PRC.

This year, the PRC moved from STEAM Academy to Graham School. The PRC works hand-in-hand with parents, schools, and community partners to build strong relationships that support the academic and personal success of every child.

They ensure families have easy, equitable access to resources, services, and opportunities to help children and parents thrive. If you would like to book an appointment, please contact parentresourcecenter@mtvernoncsd.org or call (914) 358-2744.

“We are proud to have the Parent Resource Center at Graham School,” said Parent Liaison Veronica Graham. “We offer so many resources across the spectrum. We have people come in to do career readiness workshops, to help with resume writing and how to look for jobs online. We do offer those services for high school students as well.”

Additional community resources at the event included Child Care Council of Westchester, Mount Vernon SNUG, Mount Vernon PTA Council, Mount Vernon SEPTA, HCS Homecare, Daisy Dream Project and more.

“Fall Fest was such a great opportunity for all the families in the district to come together and learn about all the resources that we offer here in the Mount Vernon City School District,” said Jeanine Fertil, a mother of two children in MVCSD.

There was also a plethora of activities for families to participate in, such as bouncy houses, a petting zoo, lawn games, and a mini train ride around the track of the school! Plenty of treats were available, including cotton candy and freshly made popcorn for everyone to enjoy.

The audience also received a booming performance from the Denzel Washington School of the Arts ensemble. Families marched to the beat of their own drum, dancing along as students performed.

“Mount Vernon City School District’s district-wide Fall Festival hosted here at Graham School has been phenomenal," said Graham School Principal Natasha Hunter-McGregor. “The best part of it is seeing our scholars and our families engaging and having a lot of fun, while also receiving meaningful resources.”
