Mount Vernon City Court judge visits Hamilton School to speak about civic responsibility

Hamilton School proudly welcomed Judge Tamika A. Coverdale of the Mount Vernon City Court on Tuesday as part of its Guest Speaker Series.

Judge Coverdale met with fifth- and sixth-graders to discuss civic responsibility, the structure of the court system and the professional journey of becoming an attorney and judge.

The students were very engaged throughout the presentation, asking thoughtful questions and demonstrating a genuine interest in understanding the legal system and their role as responsible citizens.

This meaningful experience was presented in alignment with the school’s Together Against Hate/No Place for Hate initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to promoting respect, civic awareness and positive decision-making within the school community.

Hamilton School observed International Holocaust Remembrance Day on Tuesday in collaboration with No Place for Hate–Together Against Hate. Established by the United Nations in 2005, the day marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945 and honors the memory of the six million Jews and millions of other victims of the Holocaust.

Hamilton School has been providing a series of parent workshops, hosted by Parent Liaison Maura Gutierrez and Richard Julius from the Triple P Positive Parenting Program, who presented to families. Parents learned about different ways to support their child such as how to develop a good nighttime routine. Their most recent meeting was Wednesday, January 20, and they will meet again on January 27 and February 3.

Last Wednesday, Hamilton School hosted a special Thanksgiving potluck for the students in grades 1 and 3. This joyous event brought the children together to celebrate the holiday with a shared meal. Families and staff generously contributed a variety of delicious dishes, fostering a wonderful atmosphere of togetherness and community spirit among the different grade levels.

This Tuesday, Hamilton School proudly hosted Dads Take Your Child to School Day, a special event recognizing the vital role that fathers and father figures play in a child’s education and overall development. Whether it’s a dad, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin, or close family friend, the presence and support of male role models make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.
